Notice

At the end of 2018 Lake Champlain Access Television [LCATV] started filming our presentations. Their output is 2 to 4 times sharper than the videos I was putting up. That means it takes a little longer to get the video to start. [The reason I reduced the quality level of my videos.] Their production is different than mine and you will notice that immediately.
When you click on a video, it starts to load. It will take about 30 seconds [an eternity when you are waiting] to start playing. The speakers will start to sound and the video will look like it is not running for about 23 seconds. LCATV puts up an identification POSTER for those 23 seconds. Don't be alarmed, it is running if you can hear the sound.

An Idyllic Childhood at Idlewild by Bill Duval

Bill Duval shared personal stories of his summers growing up at Camp Idlewild on Kibbe Pt. in South Hero in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s. Along with his mother and older brother, John, he spent his childhood summers there enjoying all a rural life has to offer. The camp was owned and operated first by his grandmother, Virginia Baxendale, and after her death by his mother, Marian Baxendale Duval and her brother Jack Baxendale. Bill taught U.S. History for many years at Albert D. Lawton Middle School in Essex and is currently retired. The story of South Hero relies on the history of the many camps that dotted the shoreline over the years. We all enjoyed a wonderful speaker with a passion and personal knowledge of our town’s history. View the pictures below and watch the video to learn more.

  1. Does anyone remember a Mrs. Walker who lived in Pennsylvania, but summered on Idlewild Road? I remembered that's he LOVED the crab cakes at the North Hero House restaurant. She loved to tell a story about how the owners of the NHH visited her in PA once, I believe while they were driving on a vacation.
