At the end of 2018 Lake Champlain Access Television [LCATV] started filming our presentations. Their output is 2 to 4 times sharper than the videos I was putting up. That means it takes a little longer to get the video to start. [The reason I reduced the quality level of my videos.] Their production is different than mine and you will notice that immediately.
When you click on a video, it starts to load. It will take about 30 seconds [an eternity when you are waiting] to start playing. The speakers will start to sound and the video will look like it is not running for about 23 seconds. LCATV puts up an identification POSTER for those 23 seconds. Don't be alarmed, it is running if you can hear the sound.

Featherbed Lane

On Friday, June 7th @7:00pm the Neighbors of Featherbed Lane shared stories and photos of its ongoing history. The presentation was well attended and audience participation was excellent. Many might not know where Featherbed Lane is [HINT: Look to the right as you get off the causeway and onto the island, don't blink or you will miss the sign].
In the day, roads and cow-paths were much the same. Listen to the stories of the early days when it was a little bit of a challenge just to get to your property. Having a unique name like Featherbed might conger up images and imaginary stories of how it got the name. Bet the real story is just as unique as your imaginations.
The presenters are Dick Bingham, Ray Jacoby, and Bill and Shirley Bingham. I don't want to say they were there since day one but maybe from day one and a half. They have a vast knowledge of the history of the Lane.
Audience participation from NEW owners and the current Road Association President was extremely interesting and sparked lively discussions around the room.

South Hero Historical Society Presents: “Night at the Museum!" On Thursday, March 2, 2023 at 6:30pm at the Worthen Library, the South Hero Historical Society would like to acquaint you with the South Hero Bicentennial Museum. The museum building itself has an interesting history and over the years the collection has been cared for by a number of volunteers. On the first floor it offers an extensive library of genealogy material, maps of the town from the 1700s on, and the history of education in South Hero. There is also a detailed local military display from the Revolutionary War to Vietnam. A favorite exhibit called, “When you live on a lake” has features on fishing and hunting and the evolution of steamboats as they were built on and burned near our shores. Downstairs has a blacksmith display, railroad items, bean factory and other machinery, tools, and more. For those of you who often think as you drive by, “I wonder what’s in there,” here’s your chance to explore many of our artifacts via a slideshow and a professionally made video of what you’ve been missing. Come and enjoy a “Night at the South Hero Bicentennial Museum!” Starting in Oct. 2022 our Historical Society will be partnering with the Worthen Library. Programs will be advertised through their website and programs will be videoed and a link will be placed in a post to view all 2022 and on programs.

The SHHS (South Hero Historical Society) will be partnering with the Worthen Library from now on to put on local history programs starting with our first program and annual meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 7PM. Kim Kinney will be presenting the History of the Kinney farm on South Street-seven generations! Be sure to sign up for the Worthen Library emails so you get all the latest Historical Society Program information.
